Relations with other Grand Lodges

In
1723 the Charges
of a Freemason as prepared by the Rev. James Anderson included the
phrase "... whereby Masonry becomes the Centre of Union and the
means
of conciliating true Friendship among persons that might otherwise have
remained at a perpetual distance." Fraternal relations
between
Grand Lodges foster this concept on an international basis. Since
the formation of this Grand Lodge in 1884 fraternal relations have been
established with many other Grand Lodges in different parts of the
world
.
Below are listed some of the Grand Lodges with which this Grand Lodge is in amity and with whom Internet links have been arranged. Each of the following links will open in a new window. Distribution of Grand Lodges in amity with this Grand LodgeEach Grand Lodge is an independent and autonomous body. The other Grand Lodges with which this Grand Lodge has established fraternal relations are distributed as follows:Australia
and New Zealand - 6 For further information please see the latest edition of the booklet "List of Lodges - Masonic" (published by Pantagraph). Masonic Recognition and Exchange of RepresentativesRecognition is considered on request from the other Grand Lodge. When requirements for recognition have been satisfied, fraternal relations are established. Grand Representatives are exchanged by mutual agreement. The establishment of fraternal relations between Grand Lodges serves to promote universal brotherhood, facilitates visits between Freemasons of different jurisdictions where relations have been established, and enables each Grand Lodge to be made aware of events and conditions elsewhere.Bases for RecognitionThe following principles are amongst the bases upon which Masonic recognition is established and maintained by this Grand Lodge :
The members of those Grand Lodges which cannot show adherence to the above principles are not regarded or recognised as Freemasons by this Grand Lodge. They cannot be visited by, or visit with, recognised Freemasons. . . The travelling Freemason - visiting LodgesOverseas Freemasons intending to visit South Australia and Northern Territory are advised to consult with their Grand Lodge Office as to whether they may visit Lodges in this jurisdiction, and ascertain the requirements for visiting. Generally, a Freemason who is a financial member of a regular Lodge (including Prince Hall Affiliation) is welcome as a visitor to Lodges in South Australia and Northern Territory. A letter of introduction from your Lodge Secretary and/or Grand Secretary is recommended, together with Masonic membership certificate or card and Lodge notice paper.Meeting times given in the Lodge section of this web site are as up-to-date as possible. Detailed advice may be obtained from our Grand Lodge Office during business hours. Meeting places of our lodges have been plotted on Google Maps. Acceptable dress for intending overseas or interstate visitors to South Australian and Northern Territory Lodges includes a coat, white shirt and dark tie - note that your hosts in evening lodges generally wear a dinner jacket (tuxedo) and black (bow) tie. Summer dress (no coat or jacket) may be worn between mid October and mid April in South Australia, and all year in the Northern Territory. Please bring your regalia (including apron) if possible. Members of the public including tourists are welcome to visit the Adelaide Masonic Centre, as indicated elsewhere on this web site. Contact by visiting Freemasons with the Office of our Grand Secretary before or after a tour will facilitate visits to Lodges should such be desired. South Australian and Northern Territory Freemasons intending to visit Lodges overseas should contact the Grand Secretary's Office during the planning of their trip (or at least 6-8 weeks before departure) for advice, recommendations on procedures and provision of a letter of introduction. The intending Masonic traveller is referred to the two volume publication "Freemasonry Universal" by Henderson and Pope for detailed useful information. Additionally, the Internet can be searched for current information.. |
